Since their inception, TaylorMade's P•790 Irons have been stalwarts in the player's distance category, providing an impressive combination of explosive distance and remarkable forgiveness in an attractive package. As such, TaylorMade's approach to the newest model revolves around perfecting the iron's already prodigious performance capabilities.The latest iteration of the P•790 features a thick-thin back wall that removes weight from the rear of the iron without diminishing its structural integrity. Using artificial intelligence, the weight is strategically positioned to enhance each club's performance. The long irons benefit from the lowest center of gravity, improving launch conditions, stability, and playability. As the set progresses to the short irons, the CG gradually shifts higher, resulting in superior control and accuracy, both of which are undoubtedly crucial components for scoring well.
Thanks to its forged L-Face, Speed Pocket, and SpeedFoam Air, the P790 delivers explosive ball speeds. The latest model's responsive face and new internal shaping create a significantly larger sweet spot than past generations, yielding consistent ball speeds across the hitting surface. Consequently, dispersion tightens, and poorly struck shots travel nearly the same distance as those that find the center of the face.
